PDC World Championships Day Five

Well, time for more tips, as the darts come thick and fast for another two days. Not a classic night last night, by any means, but we did get the classic we thought we'd get between Nicholson and Jenkins. It's just a shame we couldn't get the high checkout to go with the plethora of 180s. Still, we're in profit for the tournament and that's going to get bigger after today's matches. So, without further ado, here we go.

Andy Smith Vs Darin Yong

We start off with The Pieman against Big Daddy. Two heavyweights taking on each other and when I say heavyweights, it's not to do with their skills. This probably won't be a classic, but both men can score heavily enough on their day. Smith hasn't been on TV much recently and has been slipping down the rankings slightly, whereas Darin Young has put in some solid performances, most recently at the Grand Slam of Darts, where he made it out of thge group stages. The TV exposure can only have helped him and he doesn't seem to be intimiated by the big names. We made Young slight favourite and to see the bookies pricing it up with Smith marginal favourite, we want to capitalise on that.

Darin Young to beat Andy Smith: Evens @ Stan James. Evens @ Blue Square.

Recommend: 2 units @ Evens.

Prelim Match: Tomas Seyler versus Jan van der Rassel

This actually looks a decent match on paper, with the winner going on to face a winnable match against Denis Ovens. However, as before, it's a race to 4 and we don't want to get involved in what is essentially pot luck, especially as both players are capable of winning this. Enjoy the match, maybe put the kettle on or get your beer ready for the coming matches. Don't worry too much about not being able to have a bet.

Recommend: No bet.

Steve Beaton Vs Carlos Rodriguez

An interesting match between Steve Beaton, who has had a fantastic year, finding the game that propelled him to a World Title in the BDO and Carlos Rodriguez who has had some fantastic results in his career, taking some big scalps along the way. The prices seem about right, as Beaton has the game to beat Rodriguez, but we don't want to play, as he's just a bit too short for our liking. However, Beaton isn't known as a big scorer, which wouls leave Rodriguez having to hit the 180s. The line is 6.5 and we like the unders here, as it could end up being 3-1 or even 3-0, which doesn't leave Rodriguez much time to hammer in 7 180s.

Under 6.5 180s in the Steve Beaton versus Carlos Rodriguez match: 5/6 @ Blue Square.

Recommend: 1.5 units @ 5/6.

Colin Osborne versus Simon Whitlock.

The Wizard versus The Wizard. We'll tip a win for The Wizard. Simple as that... No, we won't take the easy way out with this, as this is another game that has the potential to be a classic. Osborne has had a good year, while Whitlock is making his first appearance in the PDC World Championship for 7 years. Both men are top players and it's a shame one of them has to go out. Both men will score heavily, both men will take big scores out and it could easily be 3-2 either way. The line for the highest checkout is quite high compared to most of the matches, but we're still confident these two will produce a big out or two between them.

Highest Checkout Over 119.5 in Colin Osborne versus Simon Whitlock game: 4/5 @ Stan James.

Recommend: 2 units @ 4/5.

Denis Ovens versus Seyler or Van der Rassel.

Obviously the bookies haven't priced this up, but this is a potential banana skin for Ovens, as Seyler and Van Der Rassel seem a cut above most of the other players in the prelims. Both have experience on the stage and Van Der Rassel had a good experience at the World Championship two years ago. So, it might be worth your while taking on Ovens if the price is right, but we couldn't comment, as the prices aren't here just now.

Recommend: No bet.

Summary: A good day of darts for us. One or two potentially great matches and the potential for a decent prelim match. We're confident it'll be a great day for us and are very, very happy with our picks.
