Grand Slam of Darts 2011 Day 4 Tips

An indifferent night last night. We went 3-2, taking us to a total of 9-9 for the Grand Slam of Darts, and giving us a profit of +1.79 units for our free darts betting tips.

It was such a strange night, with Adrian Lewis taking 15 minutes to ruin our Co Stompe bet, but Magnus Caris getting us off to a great start. Martin Phillips did us a great favour, but then Arron Monk just didn't turn up against Jan Dekker. but we got on the right side of Paul Nicholson's victory, which put is in a good position.

Still, onwards and upwards and we're nearing the end of the group stages in the Grand Slam of Darts, and there's some absolutely belting matches to come.

The markets at Betfair's are always great during the big darts tournaments. Betfair is traditionally the best value around and the ability to trade your position during a match is great. And add in the free bet promotions, you're onto a winner.

Raymond van Barneveld versus Dean Winstanley.

Poor Barney. He had a hard time of it against Ted Hankey, after losing his first game to Ian White. So, Barney's out, with nothing to play for and Winstanley is through, so it's a strange match in prospect.

Winstanley's doubling was shocking in his match against Ian White, even though he won, but his scoring was excellent, with 5 maximums over 9 legs.

Barney's scoring wasn't on par with Winstanley, and his 5-2 defeat to Ted Hankey was just just nowhere near good enough.

The problem here is that Barney has nothing to play for, while Winstanley seems like he wants to impress on the big stage. Barney is the favourite here, but only just. I think given the way Barney left hte stage Sunday night indicates the frame of mind he's in, and a Barney in a bad frame of mind just won't win much.

Scott Waites versus Mark Walsh.

Waites has just not had the rub of the green at the Grand Slam of Darts this year. Defeats to Tony O'Shea and Michael van Gerwen have put him out of contention for a place in the knockout stages. Compare that to Mark Walsh, who has won both his matches and is guaranteed his place in the next round, and you see just how poor Waites' form has been.

The thing is, Walsh isn't the flashiest player around and it Waites can just string some high scoring together like he did in the five five legs against Tony O'Shea, then he can redeem some pride.

I think it's the big thing for Waites to show the PDC boys he's not a flash in the pan, so a win over Walsh would be huge.

Scott Waites to beat Mark Walsh: 4/5 @ Betfair.

Nigel Heydon versus Brendan Dolan.

Brendan Dolan is out of the Grand Slam of Darts, for all intents and purposes. Well, unless there's some seriously crazy results. Nigel Heydon, on the other hand, can still qualify if he wins here.

Add to the fact Heydon has already beaten the top seed in the group, Gary Anderson and he played well with a 93.51 average in defeat to Wayne Jones, while Dolan has just been nowhere near the mark in terms of replicating the form that got him to the final of the World Grand Prix in Dublin.

Heydon a decent enough scorer and he should get his chances, so as long as he takes him, it could be over and we will hopefully get the result we want.

Nigel Heydon to beat Brendan Dolan: 10/11 @ a href="http://ads.betfair.com/redirect.aspx?pid=11481&bid=1861" target="_blank" >Betfair.

Dave Chisnall versus Justin Pipe.

Both men with lots to play for and both men have impressed me at this year's Grand Slam of Darts. Pipe was unlucky against James Wade, the same of which can be said of Chisnall. Chisnall met a superb Terry Jenkins and now has to beat Pipe to keep alive his chances of making it through to the knockout stages with just 2 points.

Pipe has been playing solid, if unspectacular and I can see him grinding Chisnall down and hopefully punishing Chisnall's missed doubles.

Justin Pipe to beat Dave Chisnall: 13/10 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 1 unit.

Tony O'Shea versus Michael van Gerwen.

The winner of this match stays in the tournament, the loser heads home. Basically, if Michael van Gerwen of Sunday night turns up, he can head for the ferry port and think of Christmas. Tony O'Shea took his time to get into his stride against Scott Waites, but he fought hard to come back from 4-1 down, put in 5 maximums and fired in an average of 92.09.

Van Gerwen's 85.98 wouldn't be good enough and I just don't think he can reproduce the form he had shown in the first match of the Grand Slam of Darts. O'Shea's experience should help him through the pressure and the crowd love him, so it's a bonus.

The prices here seem too big on O'Shea, so we definitely have to have a dabble.

Tony O'Shea to beat Michael van Gerwen: 4/5 @ Betfair.

James Wade versus Terry Jenkins.

Where did Jenkins' form come from on Sunday? He looked dead and buried after being destroyed by Justin Pipe, then hits some amazing form to dismantle Dave Chisnall.

However, James Wade just seems to be pulling out all the stops to grind out the wins and he should be able to do that against Terry Jenkins. Wade needs to get a win to secure his place, as defeat here could still leave him in trouble depending on the legs won and lost by every player on 4 points.

So, Wade knows a win puts him through without having to worry about any calculations, so he'll grind it out. Unfortunately, he's of no value to us, so we'll keep our powder dry on this one.

Recommend: No bet.

Ted Hankey versus Ian White.

How can anyone hate Ted Hankey? He brings something entertaining to the game and he plays up to the crowd. Does he hate the booing? Not as much as he's pretending to.

It helped him to a win over Barney and I think he can do it again. While Ian White looks to be in some decent form, Hankey showed something against Barney that he hadn't shown against Dean Winstanley.

I actually thought Hankey would be a little shorter than he currently is, so I can't say no to backing The Count.

Ted Hankey to beat Ian White: 4/6 @ 888.com .

Gary Anderson versus Wayne Jones.

A huge match for both men as defeat could theoretically mean the end of the Grand Slam of Darts for either of them. However, it all depends on how the results go elsewhere in the group. If Nigel Heydon wins, both men need a win. If Brendan Dolan wins, only Gary Anderson needs a win to get through.

So, with variable to be decided earlier in the night, I won't dare try and tip anything. So, just enjoy the last match of the night and count yuor winnings from earlier on.

Recommend: No bet.

That's it for the fourth day of the Grand Slam of Darts. Some amazing matches and some real competition on show. My only hope is that The Count lasts a little bit longer in the Grand Slam of Darts.

Remember to check out our friends at Betfair for some great free bet promotions, as well as some of the best prices around.
