What a great night! Betting-wise, we were had a push. We're now 8-6 and we're still in profit to the tune of +8.17 units. It was a crazy night in the Robson vs Phillips match and even though it went all the way, we scraped in on the maximums, sadly losing on the Robson bet, but it was damn close!
Again, I want to stress how important it is to shop around the bookies for the best line, as some were going 9.5 maximums, which would obviously have lost. Again, I'll always point you in the right direction, so make sure you're signed up to the right bookies, while taking advantage of the free bets they offer.
Here are all the free bets on offer during the BDO World Championships
Stephen Bunting vs Dean Winstanley.
Before I saw the Robson vs Phillips match, I would have picked this match as the tie of the round. Stephen Bunting shocked Scott Waites in the previous round, while Dean Winstanley finally lived up to his billing, demolishing Robbie Green. Both men put in great performances and it's a shame they have to meet in the quarter-finals, while a weaker player will be guaranteed a semi-final place. Never mind, though, we're interested in the betting, now the players' feelings!
Both men averaged roughly the same in their previous matches, both men's highest checkout was very close (120 for bunting, 116 for Winstanley) and there was only 1 maximum difference. On paper this is a close-run thing and that's how I see it, too. So it's baffling to see Bunting as short as he is. At the price, we really have to be backing Winstanley.
The other markets all look good and proper, so there's no real vaule to be had elsewhere, but Winstanley to win the match looks a proper value bet, considering there is nothing between them on paper from their last match.

Jan Dekker vs Gary Thompson.
One of these men will be invited to the Grand Slam of Darts in November and it's a bit worrying as a darts fan, considering their performances in the previous rounds. Both men have looked fortunate to be here, but at the end of the day, they've won their matches and deserve to be here. That being said, this definitely won't be a classic and we won't be reliving the Gary Anderson vs Dennis Priestley encounter from two weeks ago.
However, this match has to have a winner and it's my job to find it. Dekker's average in the previous round was a few points higher than Thompson's, so he's in slightly better form. Add in that Deeker put in 3 more 180s than Thompson (5 to 2) and a considerably better highest checkout (134 to 116), then it's clear who the bet is here. Dekker might finally have shown what he is capable of and did take care of the second seed, irrespective of how Stuart Kellett actually played.
Thompson just hasn't convinced me and I think the young Dutchman's confidence will carry him through. Much like the other match, the other markets are very much in line with what I had expected, so we'll just be betting on the match winner here.
