Right, we're back with another tournmanet and it's one of my favourites. The PDC World Matchplay starts on the 17th of July and it's like on Sky Sports, with the semi-finals and final being broadcast in 3D. Fantastic! Nice to see Sky are investing more and more money into the sport.
We've got a nice slow build up in this tournament, with the first round matches being best of 21 and it's only the best of the best in the field. Nothing stands out in the outright market, as Phil Taylor should dominate and at his short, short price, he's not worth backing, but neither is he worth taking on.
I want to mention the bookmakers that will give you some free money for depositing there. Is there anything better than free money? Well, more free money. So, use my tips along with these free sign-up offers and we'll keep the great run going!
Victor Chandler as a well established name in sports betting and they really get behind the great sport of darts. They'll give you up to a £100 free sports bet, as well as casino chips is you sign up there. There's not a better offer available and I've taken advantage of this for tonight's tips, and I think you should too. Hey, if the tips win, great, but if, for some strange reason, they don't, you've lost nothing!
Boylesports are another great bookmaker for darts. They have a huge variety of markets and they have a nice £20 deposit bonus. You deposit and bet £20, they match it. Simples!
Stan James are big supporters of darts and are the actual sponsors of the World Matchplay. We find their markets to be amongst the best when it comes to darts betting, which is why we proudly support them. Plus, their £25 match bet is a fantastic offer, probably the best out there at the moment. So, why not sign up, deposit and have a nibble on our first tip of the night and Stan James will match it:
Seriously, if you don’t have accounts at any of these bookmakers, sign up, deposit and use your free bet to have a dabble on tonight’s tips. Now that that’s out of the way and you’ve got your free bets, let’s get the tips going.
Now, let's get onto the tips.
We're forgoing the traditional format for these tips, as a lot of the early matches hold no value and I'm sure you won't be interested in reading about them if you aren't getting a tip for them, so...
Over 16.5 legs in Van der Voort Vs Priestley match: 10/11 @
This has the potential to be a long, long match, even with the lightning quick VDV on the stage. Priestley will wear him down with his slow, methodical style and while he might not win, it should be enough to upset the apple cart a bit and I can see a close 10-9, 10-8 game on the cards. While Dennis The Menace hasn't been setting the world alight, he comes alive in front of the cameras and with the decent form VDV is in, it should be a cracker and a tight one, indeed.
Recommend: 2 units @ 10/11.
Denis Ovens to beat Raymond van Barneveld: 2/1 @
Ovens has been playing some great darts of late and seems to have overcome his fear of being in front of the cameras. He even said as much after his great run in the UK Open. He's been flying on the floor tournaments, while Barney hasn't been playing much since the Premier League ended. The price is unbelievable for Ovens, especially if Barney still hasn't got over the kidnap threats his family received at the start of the year. Take the form player at a big prize to cause what the commentators will call an upset, but we'll know the right player won.
Recommend: 1.5 units @ 2/1.
That's all we have for day one of the World Matchplay, but I think they're two great bets and I think we'll get off to a great start for this brilliant tournament. Remember, the action starts at 7pm on Sky Sports, so watch it, enjoy it and make sure you get on to these winners.
