Phil Taylor Vs Raymond van Barneveld:

The two best players in the world, perhaps the two best players ever square off, with Raymond van Barneveld in his first ever World Matchplay final. Barney has shown the form of old, sweeping aside everyone, even demolishing the world number three, James Wade, in the semi-finals. It was an amazing performance, with an average of 99.42 and some glorous checkouts by both men.

Phil Taylor put in another great performance, dismantling Simon Whitlock with an average of 103.46. Taylor can do no wrong this week, putting in a tournament best average in the first round and then taking apart the opposition in every game since then. He’s definitely at his peak and Barney will be hard to beat.

On the averages in the semi-finals, Taylor has the advantage, however Barney has been making some big out shots when needed. It’s going to be a close one in the race to 18. The thing is, Taylor has one huge edge over Barney and it’s all psychological. Barney could match him on averages, as long as Taylor doesn’t put in a world record performance, but as soon as Taylor breaks him, the head might just go. However, the handicap line is -7.5 and that’s not doing Barney justice. He’s playing some great darts and should be able to take 11 legs off of Taylor.

PDC World Matchplay 2010 Day 8 Tips

Well, I don’t know if yesterday was a bit of an anti-climax, but it was still a good day of darts and even better for Darts Betting Tips follows, as we went 2-1, with Stompe snatching a handicap win from the jaws of defeat. Typical! Phil Taylor’s destruction of Kevin Painter wasn’t unexpected and, to be honest, we’ve got the four best players in the world competing in the semi-finals. It’s always good to see that happen, as we shouldn’t get a one-sided final as can happen when a lesser player makes it this far.

However, while we’ve got the four best players in the world playing, the selling point for tonight’s darts is the fact it’s going to be in 3D. 3D darts, is it the future? Well, probably not, but it’s quite a cool idea and there are around 1,000 pubs in the country that will be showing the semi-finals in 3D. So, have a look online and see if your local is showing the action where you get to where funny glasses while having a pint. Of course, remember to put your bets on before you leave, or it’s going to be a disappointment.

Raymond van Barneveld Vs James Wade:

Oh, what a game this could be. Barney has been a force to be reckoned with all week, coming back into the kind of form that got him all those PDC finals and titles. James Wade has started slow and picked up as the week has gone on. His averages have increased and his finishing has got better. Two players peaking at the right time will ensure this is a cracking match.

The thing is, yesterday, while Wade looked good, he was pushed all the way and it’s been the same all week. He’s done enough and scraped over the line. Barney, on the other hand, has looked good for his wins in all his matches, even though Co Stompe did push him harder than anyone else this week. Just looking at it, van Barneveld should just have the edge here and that’s where we’re going to be looking. The line for the 180s is 15.5, which looks spot on to me, but these two men could just as easily crush it as they will have a lot of legs to get their 180s.

Simon Whitlock Vs Phil Taylor:

Phil Taylor has done everything right this week. All that’s missing is the 9-darter and Sid Waddell and his friends are still going on about it. Simon Whitlock has looked handy this week, but he’s ill and you don’t want to be facing Phil Taylor when you’re not 100%. Whitlock was 100% in the PDC Final and he got beaten convincingly. Now, with the flu, Taylor should have enough to take care of Whitlock. The handicap line is around -7.5, which is fair enough, as Taylor is capable. However, if Whitlock can get his finishing together, Whitlock can take the 10 legs he neds to beat the line.

The maximums line is 16.5, which is, like the previous match, very fair. However, Boylesports have their highest checkout line at 130.5, while the majority of bookies are going 135.5. It’s definitely worth a dabble with two players who can put in the big finishes on their day.

What a great night last night. 4-1 for a huge night. Thanks for all the e-mails thankins me and it’s nice to know some of you are putting your winnings to good use, especially Gary, who’s off somewhere nice. Now, I don’t think we can blame Simon Whitlock for not making it 5-0 last night, as his opponent more than held his own.

An early start to the darts today, with an afternoon session starting at 1:00, so don’t miss that. We have three World Champions taking the stage today, with perhaps the most shocking being Jelle Klaase who took maximum advantage of Gary Anderson’s injury.

James Wade Vs Wayne Jones:

James Wade got past Vincent van der Voort in the previous round 13-10, with an average of 92.34 and a highest finish of 121. Wayne Jones had a good fighting result over Ronnie Baxter, winning 13-9, with an average of just over 90 and a highest out shot of 81.

On paper, Wade should win this and I don’t see why not. However, Jones is solid, will grind away at Wade and it might not be as one sided as the bookies would have you believe. 1/7 for a man who struggled to get Andy Smith and could easily have lost to VDV isn’t the way to riches. However, because the bookies favour Wade so much, the handicap line is ridiculous. -5.5 for a player like Wayne Jones, who is Mr consistency away from the cameras is brilliant.

Jelle Klaasen Vs Simon Whitlock:

This should be a great match. Jelle Klaasen is showing the kind of form that got him a Premier League spot in 2009. It’s just a shame he’s coming up against one of the most in-form players in the PDC at the moment, Simon Whitlock. Klaasen had a hard, hard match against Gary Anderson and had Anderson not been injured, it might be a different match today. However, credit where credit’s due and Klaasen handled the pressure with aplomb, winning 14-12 with an average of 86.24 and a highest outshot of 117. Whitlock, on the other hand, beat Steve Brown 13-10, averaging 94.59 and a top checkout of 78.

Whitlock’s 8 point better average is about right for the tournament so far and Klaasen’s patchy scoring is his big problem. Well, his doubling is a bit, too. Whitlock should have too much in his locker and should comfortably get to 16 before Klaasen. But at 2/7, I really don’t fancy it. Whitlock on the handicap at -4.5 does, though.

Co Stompe Vs Raymond van Barneveld:

Battle of the Dutchmen and a battle of two good friends. Simply put, Barney is back. Stompe might have looked handy against Mark Webster, but Barney looked irresistible in his demolition job of Alan Tabern, averging 103.85 in the process. There will be no time for friendship on the oche tonight, as Barney will feel has still has something to prove to not only the fans, but himself. The 1/4 is actually a great price if you like betting on odds-on shorties, but we don’t here, do we?

Again, I like the look of the handicap line, at -4.5 for Barney. The line for the maximums is nice at around 12.5, but we’re not getting the 20/23, or the 10/11 the pair, it’s around 8/11, which isn’t so appealing. The bookie know it could be high scoring, as when Stompe gets into the groove, he can get the maximums flowing just as well as Barney.

Phil Taylor Vs Kevin Painter:

The superlatives have run out. Phil Taylor beat Steve Beaton convincingly, after a slow start. He averaged 104.6 and took out 126 and 121 on the way. Kevin Painter never seems to have any luck against The Power and I can’t see it changing tonight. 1/40 is the best price for Taylor, 16/1 the best price for Painter. It could be “name your price” really, for The Artist, the way Taylor is playing.

I’ll be honest, nothing really jumps out at me value-wise for this match and I don’t want to recommend a bet just for the sake of it, so just sit back, count your winnings from the previous matches and see if The Power can get that world record just to shut Sid & Co. up.

PDC World Matchplay 2010 Day 6 Tips

What a great night, considering we got off to a distinctly average start and then Vincent van der Voort made is sweat big time for the win. Then we had it comfortable with Alan Tabern firing in a huge checkout in the second leg of the match. So, a 3-2 night, which is nice considering it could easily have been 2-3, or even worse if Co Stompe hadn’t bucked up his ideas.

Quite an exciting night coming up in the darts with two of the new PDC guard taking the stage in the shame of Gary Anderson and Simon Whitlock. The greatest darts player to ever live will also make an appearance and hopefully we get the same atmosphere as we have had the first 5 nights.

Gary Anderson Vs Jelle Klaasen:

Gary Anderson (Ave: 98.24) beat robert Thornton 10-0
Jelle Klaasen (Ave: 94.15) beat Mervyn King 10-4

Well, we’ve got one of the unlikliest World Champions taking on someone who really should have won one by now. Gary Anderson might just be one of the greastest players to never win a World Championship. He’s an amazing scorer, but mentally fragile. Jelle Klaasen, on the other hand, did it in the BDO, but has struggled for consistent for in the PDC.

On paper, Anderson takes it on averages, while Klaasen takes it on number of 180s (3) and highest checkout (121). It should be tight, but I think Anderson should end up pulling away from Klaasen. While Anderson struggles with his doubling at times, his scoring is consistent enough for him to take the match with what some might see as relative ease. He’ll be confident after a great win over Robert Thornton and his run in the UK Open. Klaasen, meanwhile, hasn’t been on the big stage for a while, which might just play into Anderson’s hands.

The price on Anderson is short enough, but the line for the maximums might just be a bit too high considering this might only go <20 legs. However, it's not the only line that's a tad high. The highest checkout line is around 125, which is high considering both players aren't noted for their doubling.

Kevin Painter Vs Mark Walsh:

Kevin Painter (Ave: 88.89) beat Colin Lloyd 11-9
Mark Waslh (Ave: 90.46) beat Mark Dudbridge 12-10

Both men have never made the quarter-finals in Blackpool, so that record will change tonight. It’s surprising for Painter, as he’s been playing here long enough.

Both men looked far from convincing in their first round matches, with Kevin Painter coming back from the dead to win his match, while Mark Walsh was 5-0 up and almost blew it. Both men averaged roughly the same, while Walsh’s highest finish (160) takes those honours, although Painter did weigh in with a 105 and a 104. It really should be a close one, but Painter’s experience on the big stage might just pay off, especially after a great comeback victory on Tuesday night. He’s priced as the underdog, so we have to take advantage of that. Also, I don’t think this will be a high scoring classic, so the 180s line might just be a bit high.

Phil Taylor (Ave:114.99) beat Barrie Bates 10-5
Steve Beaton (Ave: 89.75) beat Paul Nicholson 10-3

The World Champions square off! Well, Phil Taylor is around 1/50 to win and rightly so. I’ll keep it simple: Phil Taylor, with the average he shot against Barrie Bates, could possibly beat Steve Beaton using two darts. Yes, it’s darts and things don’t always go to plan, but this should. Beaton looked decent enough, but he did fire a lot of blobs that Nicholson just didn’t capitalise on. The handicap is -7.5, so let’s have a dabble, as Taylor will definitley punish the blobs.

Phil Taylor -7.5 versus Steve Beaton: 9/10 @

Recommend: 2 units @ 9/10

Simon Whitlock Vs Steve Brown:

R1:

Simon Whitlock (Ave: 94.86) beat Tony Eccles 10-1
Steve Brown (Ave: 87.45) beat Terry Jenkins 10-6

On paper, a mis-match. In my head, another mis-match. Steve Brown did well to beat Terry Jenkins, who is sorely lacking in form. Simon Whitlock beat PDC journeyman Tony Eccles. The averages tell the story here, with Whitlock a good 7 points ahead, which is good enough for a comfortable win. Whitlock was able to dismantle Eccles with his consistency, especially around the doubles. He won’t be as generous to Brown as Jenkins was. It should be a swift exit for Brown. 1/14 Whiclock tells the story here. The handicap is -6.5 and we’ll have a dabble on that.

PDC World Matchplay Day 5 Tips

Well, Day 4 was a strange day of darts. Not the best darts on show, but some good results and we went 50% again, with Taylor missing the bullseye for our big finishes to make it a huge winning night for us. C’est la vie! However, we got a nice touch on the total legs in the Beaton/Nicholson match, even if it didn’t go the way we expected. Those backers of Nicholson as short prices will be seething. We’ll just be counting our money.

Day 5, as Sky Sports like to keep on reminding you, is the Dutch invasion. Three Dutchmen playing in four of the matches, with the first match of the night contested by two very English men. Will we get the drama we had in Day 4? Well, I’d like to think so.

Ronnie Baxter Vs Wayne Jones:

R1:

Ronnie Baxter (Ave:93.02) beat Jamie Caven 10-7
Wayne Jones (Ave:87.98) beat Colin Osborne 10-8

Both men had performance that weren’t too spectacular, however Baxter looked to be the sharper of the two. Wayne Jones is such a funny one on stage. If he could produce what he does on the floor, he’d be beating players the calibre of Ronnie Baxter all the time and would not doubt be a Premier League lock. As it stands, he doesn’t bring that form to the big stage, while Baxter does.

Baxter has had a big of a resurgence in the past 18 months or so and the Premier League will have helped him get back into the groove of big time darts. This shows in the prices, with Baxter around 4/11 to beat Jones. We won’t get rich backing anyone at that price, especially when we know Jones has the game to beat Baxter should he ever bring it out in front of the cameras again.

Both men aren’t going to be firing in the 180s, with Jones scoring exactly 0 in his first round match, while Baxter fired in a grand total of 3. So, Baxter is averging in 180 every 6 legs or so, while Jones is averaging none and isn’t a heavy 180 hitter at the best of times. Stan James has a hilariously low line of 5.5 for this, but Boylesports are going a nice 6.5, which we’re going to go under.

Co Stompe Vs Mark Webster:

R1:

Co Stompe (Ave: 90.17) beat Andy Hamilton 12-10
Mark Webster (Ave: 90.86) beat Adrian Lewis 11-9

Could this be any tighter? Well, actually, yes. Away from the averages, Stompe has the advantage in terms of highest checkout (130) and also number of maximums (8 vs 0), so there’s the edge right there. That being said, the bookies favour Webster, putting him in around 8/11 to beat the first Dutchman on stage tonight. First off, that’s a ridiculous price. Stompe has played some great darts on the PDC stage over the past 2 years and it’s simply due to a lack of TV exposure that he doesn’t do any more. That being said, Webster knows he needs a good run to prove his World Championship 3rd place wasn’t a fluke. In my opinion, 10/11 the pair might be fair.

But we’ll be taking on Webster with my favourite darts player, simply because he can be a great scorer and does some sexy finishing when he’s on top of his game. However, we’re also going to get stuck into the total 180s scored by Stompe. Stompe smashed in 8 in 22 legs of darts, he’ll only need 5 in a match that could potentially go all the way and then some more.

Vincent van der Voort Vs James Wade:

R1:

Van der Voort (Ave: 92.21) beat Dennis Priestley 10-6
James Wade (Ave: 89.14) beat Andy Smith 10-8

A lacklustre performance from the former World Matchplay champion, James Wade, in defeating Andy Smith. The demons that have been plaguing him might have started to resurface slightly in his first round match. His average wasn’t good enough, yet he still fired in 6 maximums and managed to take out a 124 on his way to victory. It just points to a lack of consistency at the oche in legs, not just matches. VDV looked hadny against Priestley, with 3 maximums and 3 checkouts over 100, with a 157 being his finest.

VDV hasn’t actually had a bad year, picking up some big wins on the floor, while Wade has done the opposite. Simply looking at the stats, you’d favour VDV, but Wade, on his day, can pull out something special from his locker. You don’t to where he is in the game without any skill under pressure.

However, the 1/4 about Wade is an insult to VDV, as he’s more than capable of toppling Wade. But I don’t want to take on VDV, as he can be horribly inconsistent. I mean, look at the Grand Slam of Darts for proof of that. But I do think there will be a slew of maximums in this match but the line is set at 10.5, which is just too high. It should be right around that mark and the bookies are taking no chances and neither am I. However, let’s look at the handicap market which I gave a severe mocking to a couple of night ago.

Most of the bookies are giving VDV 3.5 legs, but Victor Chandler and Stan James are giving him 4.5, which is a nice bet, considering I believe VDV can beat him. I think it’ll be closer than Victor and Stan believe.

Alan Tabern Vs Raymond van Barneveld:

R1:

Van Barneveld (Ave:97.62) beat Denis Ovens 10-1 (Barney hit a 9-dart leg)
Tabern (Ave: 90.01) beat Wes Newton 12-10

The leader of the Dutch contingent is the last man on the stage tonight and he faces off with the enigma known as Alan Tabern. On his day, Tabern is capable of playing some great darts. However, Sunday wasn’t one of those days. His match against Wes Newton was painful to watch, while tonight’s opponent, Barney, was simply mercurial against Denis Ovens.

If the same Barney turns up, it’s going to be a long night for Tabern, while us watching at home who love Barney playing in his pomp will be lapping it up. But 1/5 Barney? No, thanks. Not for a guy who’s had problems all year and is known just to go a bit mental on stage. Yes, I think he’ll win, but I’m not punting at that price.

However, Boylesports seem a bit generous with their highest checkout line, as Barney fired in two 140+ finishes against Ovens and although Tabern didn’t set the world alight against Newton, he can still fire in some big finishes when he’s on fire. Boylesports setting the line at 124.5 and pricing it at 5/6 is very nice. Unless they know something we don’t!

PDC World Matchplay 2010 Day 4 Tips

Well, a slow start to the Monday session of the World Matchplay, but we finished with a bang and a spectacular win for Jelle Klaasen. We ended up in profit for the night, which is the main thing. The great thing is, there was no real sweat for Klaasen when it came to the home straight of the match.

Tuesday is the final day of first round matches and there are some fantastic matches on offer. Some quality players facing off against each other, which means we’ll have some fantastic opportunities to have a bet.

Colin Lloyd Vs Kevin Painter:

Two top PDC players over the years facing off against each other in the first round is a mouth-watering prospect, especially as, on their day, both men are fantastic to watch. Colin Lloyd has found a little bit of form recently, while Kevin Painter is still a big time player, saving his best form for the TV cameras.

Lloyd is the bookies’ favourite, although only by the narrowest of margins. I don’t think I’d agree with this, as Painter, on his best form, which he is still showing at times, can be devastating, especially on the doubles. If he can stop his head from going, he’ll be a hard man for Lloyd to beat. I think the bookies having Lloyd as favourite is a slight fault by them and we’ll be having a little wager on Painter to beat Lloyd.

Mark Walsh Vs Mark Dudbridge:

An interesting match between one underachiever and one man who overachieved a long time ago and has been lost in the wilderness ever since. Mark Walsh has shown some great form over the past few years, but mostly in floor tournaments. Mark Dudbridge, on the other hand, hasn’t shown much at all, aside from a couple of runs in various tournaments since his World Championships Final defeat.

It won’t be a classic, but it should be interesting to watch. Walsh is the favourite and rightly so. There’s no value in the match odds, as I think Walsh will win, but at 8/13, it’s not worth a dabble. There is far more value out there to be had than those odds. I can’t see it being a high scoring match, with a flurry of 180s and although there might be a fair few legs played, I can see the line at around 6.5 being tricky for them to beat.

Phil Taylor Vs Barrie Bates:

The Phil Taylor Show gets underway tomorrow evening and poor Barrie Bates. Bates, on his day, is a match for a lot of the PDC top 32, but he’s not really got the game to trouble the big guns and it will be evident when he faces Phil Taylor. Taylor is in the form of his life, breaking records left, right and centre. The 1/40 on offer is probably about right, as can you see Bates beating him over this format at least 1 time out of 40? I can’t.

As ever, Phil Taylor matches has little or no value, as the layers tend to run scared of opposing him in any market. However, I like the look over the highest checkout market. Put it this way, if Taylor wants a 9-darter, he’ll have to take out at least 141 and with the line at 120.5, we’ll definitely be having some of that.

Paul Nicholson Vs Steve Beaton:

A fun match to end the night. Steve Beaton showed some great form in 2009 to get back to the form that won him the BDO World Championship. Sure, he didn’t win any televised events, but he made a lot of money not just for himself, but for us backing him. His form in the floor tournaments was simply amazing and we capatalised on that. However, this year hasn’t been as kind and he may start going back into the wilderness. Paul Nicholson, on the other hand, has a point to prove. Since the Players’ Championship, he’s been looking a bit lost. The UK Open was a total bust for him and he was lucky to even qualify here, as his floor results haven’t been the best.

The fact is, Nicholson will have the crowd baying for his blood and he should thrive on it. He’ll get them worked up, cheering for Beaton and he’ll love it. He’s a big time player and they won’t get much bigger than this. A great crowd and a great stage. But the 1/2 doesn’t scream value, especially as Nicholson has had a fair few blobs since his start in the PDC and Beaton is capable of beating him. Both men can be wildly inconsistent, but Beaton moreso, especially on this year’s form.

I think Nicholson will be out to make a point and it might be a quick match in that respect. Stan James have the total number of legs at 17.5 and I think there will be a couple less, maybe a 10-5, or a 10-4 if Nicholson gets in the groove.

PDC World Matchplay 2010 Day 3 Tips

Well, a much better day yesterday, slightly ruined by Alan Tabern and Wes Newton’s inability to hit a high checkout. Still, we went 2-1 and we landed a nice touch on Mark Webster, proving that Adrian Lewis is about to start hitting the slippy slope down the ranking unless he can sort his game out. That being said, sometimes you think his results and ranking have flattered to deceive, when there are so many quality players in the PDC at the moment. I just think Lewis will start to feel the pinch with all these big names such as Anderson, Webster and, to a lesser extent, Stompe, getting a couple of seasons under their belt in the PDC

So, after a 2-1 night, we’re into day three of the World Matchplay already and tonight’s line-up isn’t exactly the most exciting that there’s ever been. Far from it, actually. Still, I’m confident we’ll get a few bets tonight, which I’m sure will mean a few winners.

Terry Jenkins Vs Steve Brown:

I don’t know what it is with Terry Jenkins. He’s still playing decent darts, playing well enough to beat the journeymen in the PDC, of which there are many, but he just seems to be faltering recently when it comes to the bigger matches. He’s really not been impressive for a long time. However, he should have enough in his loket to see off Steve Brown. While Brown is a decent player, he really isn’t in the class of Jenkins, especially adding in the factor of the crowd and the TV cameras.

On paper, it’s no contest. That would usually lead me to the handicap market, but the this format isn’t great for handicap betting, as we’ve seen with all the matches last night. If a player can just hold his throw, he’s taking it all the ay to sudden death and Brown is probably capable of snatching 7 legs off of Jenkins should Jenkins doubling start playing up, as it’s prone to do. So, steer clear of that market, as -3.5 is probably fair and the prices aren’t worth getting excited about.

However, let’s take a look at the highest checkout markets. The line is aroud 120.5 in most places, which is fair. I think Brown might need to take some big shots out if he’s to win, but the pressure might just start getting to him, which is an important factor when looking at the checkouts bet. Plus, while Jenkins was once good for a big checkout, his doubling has been slack as of late, so maybe erring on the side of caustion is the way to go.

Simon Whitlock Vs Tony Eccles:

Well, he’s the only Wizard left in the tournament now and all eyes will be on Simon Whitlock to continue his rampage through the PDC against Tony Eccles tonight. Tony Eccles is the ultimate journeyman and while he’s a good player, Whitlock has more than enough for him and Whitlock is only getting better. He’s thriving under the PDC banner, loving the crowds and is a shot in the arm for darts.

This might not be the 10-1 of Barney Vs Ovens, but I think Eccles will struggle to keep up with Whitlock’s relentless scoring. Having said I’d avoid the handicap markets in the previous match, I have to avoid them again, as 4.5 doesn’t leave much leverage should Eccles hit a purple patch, or Whitlock loses the head for a few legs. However, the checkout line is, in my opinion, sick for this match. At 120.5, it’s the same price for the Jenkins/Brown game and Simon Whitlock could be the best finisher in the game at the moment. He’s capable of hiting several 100+ finishes in a match and with the prospect of around 13-17 legs, he’s got plenty of time to do it.

Robert Thornton Vs Gary Anderson:

The clash of the two top Scottish players in the PDC. Both made the switch from the BDO in recent years and big things were expected from both. Gary Anderson is starting to find his feet now, with a final appearance at the UK Open. Robert Thornton, however, hasn’t found things as easy. After some early promise, it seems like he’s become another one of the players who will always float around the top 16, have a few good runs here and there and might, if he’s lucky, make the final of a televised event. However, he doesn’t seem to have the game, especially after his recent injury, to trouble the big guns. And Anderson is a big gun. Anderson is second only to Phil Taylor when it comes to scoring and some could argue that’s he’s actually a stronger scorer than Taylor, it’s just his finishing that lets him down. Well, the later part is so true. Anderson’s finishing will have you hiding behind the sofa if you’ve backed him. It can be the same for Thornton actually.

So, while I think this will be a routine win for Anderson, it might not be pretty when closing out the legs. So we’re going to the old faithful checkout market again.

Mervyn King Vs Jelle Klaasen:

A very interesting match. Mervyn King will get booed out of the building, Jelle Klaasen won’t. One is a former world champion, the other is Mervyn King. On paper, King should win this, but he might not have it all his own way. Klaasen has been off TV for long enough now and he’ll want to get back into the limelight. He’ll also have the crowd on his side, which is important, especially in Blackpool. Both are big time players, both have Premier League experience and this won’t be as one-sided as the bookies would have you think.

The real value is Klaasn to win, simply because the bookies have the prices a bit too big. 2/1 is a great price against someone like King who might just implode should the crowd really go for him. Add to the fact he’s last on and the crowd will be at their drunkest and most volatile, King’s head might just go. I hope not, as this has the potential to be a classic. But with all those factors, we have to be backing Klaasen at the prices.

PDC World Matchplay 2010 Day 2 Tips

Sorry the tips are being posted so late, but iwas drowning my sorrows after yesterday! Dennis lived up to his “Menace” nickname, as he had several darts at doubles to make sure he got the 7 legs required so our first bet won. As for Denis Ovens, well, what’s a man to do when he comes up against a resurgent Barney? He came up against a man finding some great form and hit a brilliant 9-dart leg. So, all I could do was turn to the bottle!

Still, the head is clear and we’ve got a mouth-watering line-up for the second day of matches, with one of my favourite players, Co Stompe, featuring in the first match.

Now, let’s get onto the tips.

I feel like I was taught a lesson for not using the traditional format for the tips yesterday, so we’ll go back to previewing each match, because I believe in karma and it’s a bitch at times.

Andy Hamilton Vs Co Stompe:

My favourite player in the PDC, Co Stompe, playing one of the forgotten men of the PDC. Andy Hamilton has been a stalwart of the PDC for years and has featured in the top ten for a lot of that time. On his day, Hamilton is a great scorer, great finisher and, as his nickname suggests, he can hammer the treble 20 for fun. Sadly for me, I think Hamilton will be too strong for Stompe, even though Stompe’s form is solid. It should be a great match, a lot of legs and I can easily see it being 11-9, 12-10 etc.

But, there’s no real value in backing Hamilton to beat Stompe. With the amount of legs in mind and knowing both men love a maximum, I think there’s a lot of value to b had in the 180s market. Hamilton should be good for a few and Stompe is no slouch. So, the 7.5 line might be a bit low.

Adrian Lewis Vs Mark Webster: The man who finished 3rd in the 2010 World Championships meets the man who was seen as a future world champion. The youngest match-up in the tournament and it should be a cracker. Webster is a steady player, nothing fancy, but loves the big checkouts. Lewis, on the other hand, a total maverick. One minute he’ll batter in maximum after maximum, then he’ll throw 26 several times on the bounce and thenmiss a lot of darts at doubles and will drive you mad.

It looked, during the Premier League especially, that Lewis was struggling with his doubles. His floor form hasn’t been great, either and the fact the bookies have him at such a short price (around 1/2 on average) is a bit worrying. Webster has shown he’s capable of hanging with the big boys and, don’t forget, he’s a former World Champion. He’s got enough in his locker to get past Lewis, especially is Jackpot decides he doesn’t want to hit the doubles.

Mark Webster to beat Adrian Lewis: 7/4 @

Recommend: 2 units @ 7/4

James Wade Vs Andy Smith I’ve got a lot of time for Andy Smith, I really do. I think he’s a fun character that the PDC needs and he’s not a bad players, either. However, he’s not good enough to beat James Wade, who’s starting to show some form and apepars to be taking his darts a bit more seriously now, even playing well in some floor tournaments recently, which is a bit of a first for him this year. Simply put, he’s got too much in his locker for Smith. It will be quick, it will be painful and there really isn’t any value to be had out there. Watch it and enjoy the show.

Recommend: No bet.

Alan Tabern Vs Wes Newton: Another set of PDC stalwarts in Tabern and Newton. Both men have been around for a while now and both have earned a fair crust. However, they’re the bit-part players in the play known as the PDC, so both men will have fancied this draw. It’s a 50-50 match and it’s been priced up as such. It could go on for a while, this match and the firms have all priced it up as such. They seem scared to take an opinion either way, with every market suggesting nothing more than a two leg win for either man. The 180 line is set at 6.5, which is bang where it should be. It really is a horrific match for trying to find anything for value. However, I do believe I have it.

Tabern and Newton are very consistent, especially when it comes to their finishing. Tabern loves a high finish and with the line set around 120-122, it’s a great bet. So, we’ll simply take who’s offering the best price, as I don’t think 1 point will make any difference, as we’ll see something 130+.

Recommend: 4 units @ 10/11.

So, that’s the tips for another day. I really love the Tabern/Newton bet and I think the other two look good, as well. Plus, with the tips going back to their old look, I think karma is on our side, once again. Remember, it’s a sprint, not a marathon and we’ll be rolling in clover by the time the 3D final is played on Sunday.

PDC World Matchplay 2010 Day 1 Tips

Right, we’re back with another tournmanet and it’s one of my favourites. The PDC World Matchplay starts on the 17th of July and it’s like on Sky Sports, with the semi-finals and final being broadcast in 3D. Fantastic! Nice to see Sky are investing more and more money into the sport.

We’ve got a nice slow build up in this tournament, with the first round matches being best of 21 and it’s only the best of the best in the field. Nothing stands out in the outright market, as Phil Taylor should dominate and at his short, short price, he’s not worth backing, but neither is he worth taking on.

Over 16.5 legs in Van der Voort Vs Priestley match: 10/11 @

This has the potential to be a long, long match, even with the lightning quick VDV on the stage. Priestley will wear him down with his slow, methodical style and while he might not win, it should be enough to upset the apple cart a bit and I can see a close 10-9, 10-8 game on the cards. While Dennis The Menace hasn’t been setting the world alight, he comes alive in front of the cameras and with the decent form VDV is in, it should be a cracker and a tight one, indeed.

Recommend: 2 units @ 10/11.

Denis Ovens to beat Raymond van Barneveld: 2/1 @

Ovens has been playing some great darts of late and seems to have overcome his fear of being in front of the cameras. He even said as much after his great run in the UK Open. He’s been flying on the floor tournaments, while Barney hasn’t been playing much since the Premier League ended. The price is unbelievable for Ovens, especially if Barney still hasn’t got over the kidnap threats his family received at the start of the year. Take the form player at a big prize to cause what the commentators will call an upset, but we’ll know the right player won.

Recommend: 1.5 units @ 2/1.

PDC UK Open Day Four Evening Session

Well, an afternoon session that basically sums up the heartbreak and ecstacy of betting on the maximums in darts. We got a winning bet thanks to the narrowest of margins and we lost on by one maximum. The joy and the pain encapsulated in one session of darts. And a great session, too! Nice to see someone like Tony Ayers get a good run and it’s what this tournament is all about.

I’ll only have selections for the semi-finals, as the turn around between those and the final doesn’t leave much time for the bookies to get their prices up and for me to sniff out any value. So, for now, these are the last tips unti the next big tournament, which is the World Matchplay. So, enjoy and let’s finish the UK Open on a high note.

We’re +3.87 units for the tournament, which is still a very nice result and I really do hope you’ve been on them all to the stakes I’ve advised. That’s the other important thing to remember: don’t just bet the same on each one.

Anderson is one of the most prolific 180 scorers in the game and we should see him fire in a fair few against Tony Ayres. While I don’t expect Ayres to score too many, his contribution should be enough to get us over the line, in what is a very lenient line indeed. The bookies have it so low because it’s such a one-sided match up and will be over quickly, most likely, but they don’t realise just how quick Anderson can fire them in. Add into the fact that he’s good enough at trebling to set up some nice out shots, both bets look good to me.

Denis Ovens +6.5 vs Phil Taylor: 21/20 @

Recommend: 1 unit @ 21/20.

Can Denis Ovens take 4 legs from Phil Taylor? Well, Boylesports don’t think so, as he’s odds-on everywhere else! His average of 100.96 in his demolition of Wes Newton looks good enough on paper to at least hold his throw a 4 times and although Taylor’s 180 average against Adrian Lewis would be enough to see him through handily enough, I think 4 legs is in his graps. 10-4, 10-5 might be the likeliest outcome, so the handicap is quite generous, considering.
