What a day of darts yesterday, both on and off the oche. We had to nail-biting matches, then Ted Hankey announcing he’s joining the PDC after refusing to sign a BDO contract.

We’ve got the two best players of the week meeting in the final, the two heaviest scorers and the two consistent players: Tony O’Shea and Christian Kist. Most bookies are giving Kist the edge here, so if you were one of the lucky ones that got on at 100-1 and greater on Betfair, you’ll be more than happy and have no doubt traded out to get a nice win regardless of what happens tonight.

Let’s get on to the final tips for the BDO 2012 World Championship.

The Final

Tony O’Shea versus Christian Kist.

Kist came through as a qualifier and he’s taking on the veteran from Stockport, Tony O’Shea. O’Shea came in as the 8th seed, while Kist is obviously unseeded.

Kist can feel a bit fortunate to get through, a Ted Hankey imploded after having a dart at the bull to win the match 6-4. But there’s no denying that the Dutchman has played well and deserved his place here. In fact, the first match he’s averaged less than 90 was last night against Hankey. And that was because his 180 scoring deserted him, whereas it’s been strong for the rest of the tournament. He’s scored 25, and only 4 came in the 11 sets last night. Maybe it’s a sign that over the longer format, he’s not experienced enough, but he did win, so it might not be too much of an issue. Especially when you consider he fired in his highest checkout of the tournament on his way to victory!

Tony O’Shea has been Mr Consistency this week. He’s done the business, never really had to elevate his game, as it’s been at a high standard all week, and he’s just done what he does best – win. O’Shea has 18 maximums and a highest checkout of 170, so not bad going at all. He’s been here before, but came up short against a certain PDC-bound Count, and he’ll no doubt be hoping he can stop Kist “doing a Klaasen” tonight.

The thing for me here is O’Shea’s experience. He knows what the final is all about, and he’s played in many, many long games in his time. Kist looked vulnerable last night and I think that was down to the long format, best-of-11 game he played. Yes, he won, but Hankey handed it to him on a plate. So, although O’Shea might be the underdog in the bookies’ eyes, he’s the favourite for me, and a shades of odds-against is very, very appealing.

The bookies can’t split these two when it comes to getting the highest checkout, but looking at O’Shea’s game and his best outs, I can see him punishing Kist and getting some big finishes, as it’s a crucial part of his game. Kist has been finishing well, but he’s trailing on the highest checkout by over 40 points. The bookies can’t split them, but I can.

Finally, the most 180s market is another one I think we can exploit. Just looking at last night’s matches, Kist only hit 4 maximums, while O’Shea hit 6. Not great from either man, but again I think it points to Kist having problems with the longer format. He could prove me completely wrong, but if you add that to the nerves he will no doubt be feeling, I think Tony O’Shea should easily get more 180s than him.

So, to complete the free betting tips for the BDO 2012 World Championship, we’re going for the following:

Tony O’Shea to beat Christian Kist: 11/10 @ Betfair.

Semi-final time for the BDO 2012 World Championship. We’ve got to Dutchmen and two Englishmen battling for a sport in [...]

Semi-final time for the BDO 2012 World Championship. We’ve got to Dutchmen and two Englishmen battling for a sport in the final. Wesley Harms takes on Tony O’Shea, while Christian Kist takes on Ted Hankey.

We’re sat on -1.89 units with two days of darting action to go, thanks to Alan Norris missing the double for a 9-darter! Still, onwards and upwards and I think I’ve found some great bets for the semi-finals.

Tony O’Shea versus Wesley Harms.

The Silverback is looking good for another BDO World Championship Final, after his emphatic win over England Captain Martin Adams. His 94.02 average only tells half the story, as he was on fire with his doubling, too – hitting a 170 on his way to a 5-2 victory.

Wesley Harms has done more than enough in every match so far, and it would seem he’s playing to a standard no-one expected. However, his run to the semi-finals hasn’t exactly been the hardest, with Martin Phillips averaging under 80 in their first round match. His win over Robbie Green, however, proved he was capable of hanging with the best.

It’s no surprise to see O’Shea around the 4/11 mark, as he has all the experience here, he’s been here and done it all before. But 4/11 isn’t going to get us rich, so we have to look at the handicap market. O’Shea is a -2.5 favourite on the handicap, and I like this line. I can’t see Harms taking more than 3 sets here, as O’Shea’s scoring should punish any mistakes. Plus, Harms hasn’t had any great checkouts, with his highest being 107, so I can’t see him troubling O’Shea, who should punish any mistakes.

The other line I like the look of is the total 180s. The line is 13.5, which I think is high, considering Harms has only hit 7 in 17 sets of darts. O’Shea has hit 12 in 15 sets, which is handy enough, but he would need to get near on double figures for that line to stand a chance of being beaten. I can’t see it.

Tony O’Shea -2.5 sets to beat Wesley Harms: 4/5 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 3.5 units.

Under 13.5 180s in the Tony O’Shea versus Wesley Harms match: 10/11 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 2 units.

Ted Hankey versus Christian Kist.

2000 and 2009 BDO World Champion Ted “The Count” Hankey takes to the stage in the second of the day’s matches, which promises to be a belter. He’s taking on the star of the tournament so far, Christian Kist has basically come from obscurity to have a 95.92 tournament average, as well as knocking out Jan Dekker, Geert De Vos and Alan Norris. Kist’s power scoring has got him this far, and he’ll be looking to make the final on Sunday by knocking out his much more experienced opponent.

The first market I want to look at is the most 180s. Hankey has 13 maximums compared to Kist’s 21. But the bookies have this a close run thing, although I can’t see it. Hankey’s not consistent on the maximums, whereas Kist seems to be, as it’s what took him through comfortably in his matches so far. So Evens for him to score the most 180s is definitely worth a dabble.

The other market worth looking at is the player to score the highest checkout. Kist’s highest checkout is 121, which came in his quarter-final match with Alan Norris. Hankey, on the other hand, has a 145 on the board, as well as a few more 100+ finishes to his name this year. But, like the 180s market, the bookies can’t split these two, even though it’s clear to me that Hankey should be favourite for it.

Christian Kist to score more 180s versus Ted Hankey: Evens @ 888.com.

Recommend: 2 units.

Ted Hankey to score the highest checkout versus Christian Kist: 5/6 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 3 units.

And that’s it for the BDO 2012 World Championship semi-finals. I’ll be back with the final selections for this year’s BDO World Championship.

Until then, remember our good friends that are offering £50 of free bets to their new customers. Don’t forget to head over to fpadd

One week in and we finally get the Holy Grail – a perfect night! Again, the shock of the night was tipped, so we’ve had a few nice successes when it’s come to the big names exiting and you don’t get any bigger than England Captain Martin Adams getting knocked out by Tony O’Shea.

I’m getting a lot of e-mails asking for P&L, and I will be honest, it’s more a time factor than anything, but we are now +3.61, and it’s been a long slog to get there. Hopefully you’ve kept the faith and are now sitting on a nice bit of profit. If not, shame on you! Let’s keep the streak going and get another perfect night under our belts.

Christian Kist versus Alan Norris.

Christian Kist is a little bit of an enigma here. He’s had a solid if unspectacular year, but he’s come to the Lakeside unseeded and put in two matches where he’s averaged 97.77 and then 96.51, looking very comfortable in the process. There doesn’t look to be any real faults in his game at the moment. Alan Norris, conqueror of last year’s runner-up, Dean Winstanley, has been another revelation here this week, with his power scoring giving him the edge over his competition. His averages of 91.95 and 89.28 are incredibly solid, but it’s his 13 maximums that have got him through.

Kist is the bookies’ favourite, but I think Norris might just be a bit of a handful for him. Kist dropped 2 sets to Geert de Vos, who isn’t in the same league as Norris, so Norris and his experience might just do a lot better. The other interesting figure is the highest checkout for both men. Norris has a 130 under his belt, and a 116, and also a 100. Kist’s best is a 97. Norris is the outside to have the highest checkout and I can’t have that. The stats would suggest otherwise!

Alan Norris to beat Christian Kist: 7/5 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 2 units.

Alan Norris to have the highest checkout versus Christian Kist: Evens @ 888.com.

Recommend: 3 units.

Ted Hankey versus Martin Atkins.

A bit of a shock quarter-final here, with Ted Hankey knocking out the in-form Scott Waites in a fantastic match. Hankey has a tournament average of 86.61, Atkins’ is 88.58. Neither man has lit up the treble bed, but both have been consistent and truly deserve their place here.

Atkins won their last meeting, but that was back in 2007 at the World Masters, so there’s not much to read into that. Hankey has a highest checkout of 145 (and a 144 to boot, too), while Atkins has 136 (with a 132), so there should be a few big finishes in this match. The line of 131.5 should be comfortably beat in a match like this, with both men knowing that big finishes will be what takes them over the finish line.

Atkins’ 6 maximums don’t make wonderful reading, whlie Hankey’s 9 isn’t much better. So seeing the line at 12.5 is definitely nice. I can’t see Atkins weighing in with too many, so Hankey having to score around 8 is a bit of a stretch. So the under is a must here!

Highest checkout in Ted Hankey versus Martin Atkins match over 131.5: 5/6 @ Paddy Power.

And that’s all for tonight. I think we’ve got some great bets here, especially in the second match of the night. I’ll be back with the tips for the semi-finals, where we’ll have Tony O’Shea taking on Wesley Harms, and hopefully we get Alan Norris taking on Ted Hankey in the other, as I think both will be extremely entertaining matches.

Until then, remember our good friends that are offering £50 of free bets to their new customers. Don’t forget to head over to fpadd

So close to a perfect night last night. 1 maximum from Scott Waites just ruined the night. And now he’s out. That’ll teach him! The good news is that Ted Hankey is still in, which means we still have a real entertainer in the mix.

The shock of the night was Dean Winstanley going out to Alan Norris in a fantastic match. So we’re left with 6 Englishmen, 5 seeded players, 2 Dutchmen and one England Captain in the quarter-finals of the BDO 2012 World Championship.

I won’t be tipping the two women’s semi-finals, as I think it’s still a bit of a crap shoot. But we’re guaranteed one of the game’s big names making the final, as Anastasia takes on Trina Gulliver. If Deta Hedman can win her semi-final, we’ll have the best line-up for a women’s final perhaps ever.

Paul Jennings versus Wesley Harms.

The 12th seed takes on the 13th seed here, in a match that many might not have predicted, as Wesley Harms did a real number on Robbie Green in the second round.

Harms averaged a great 90.72 average to beat Green, which, if he replicates it, would be more than enough to dispatch Paul Jennings. Jennings averaged around 84 in the first round, then just under 83 in the second round. Harms should be good enough to put Jennings away, although the bookies see this a bit closer than I do. I think Harms is a good thing here, and should be this year’s Jan Dekker.

The other thing that’s noticeable about both men is that their finishing hasn’t been spectacular. Jennings’ highest checkout was 111 in the first round, while Harms’ is 83, which came in the second round. The bookies have the line at 130.5, which I think is ridiculous given that both men haven’t troubled the highest checkout marks so far.

Wesley Harms to beat Paul Jennings: 4/5 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 3 units.

Highest checkout in Wesley Harms versus Paul Jennings match under 130.5: 5/6 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 2 units.

Martin Adams versus Tony O’Shea.

Two old foes going head-to-head here. England Captain Martin Adams holds a significant advantage on the head-to-head with The Silverback, most recently beating him 5-2 in Zuideruin. The last time they met at the Lakeside, Adams was a 3-0 winner. So all signs point to England Captain Martin Adams coming out victorious.

However, both men are very close on the stats this year. Adams has a highest checkout of 136, O’Shea has 142. Adams has a tournament average of 90.45, O’Shea’s is 89.64. The big difference is that Adams is yet to drop a leg, winning 3-0 and 4-0, while O’Shea has dropped a huge 1 set! So, it looks like it going to be a close one here, but the bookies don’t think so. I think we’re going to see a close match, and we’re going to see a few big checkouts, as both men call on all their reserves to win this match. O’Shea is just a bit too big a price, and the line of 131.5 looks low enough for both men to beat.

Tony O’Shea to beat Martin Adams: 2/1 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 3 units.

And that’s it for the first set of quarter-finals of the BDO 2012 World Championship. We’ll be back tomorrow with the other two quarter-finals, and we’ll be one step closer to crowning the 2012 Lakeside World Champion.

Day Five of the BDO 2012 World Championship sees Martin Adams in the quarter-finals, along with Tony O’Shea, Wesley Harms [...]

Day Five of the BDO 2012 World Championship sees Martin Adams in the quarter-finals, along with Tony O’Shea, Wesley Harms and Paul Jennings. Tonight we will see the last four quarter-finalists confirmed, with last year’s runner-up Dean Winstanley taking to the stage in the final match of the night.

Before that we have Ted Hankey facing Scott Waites, as well as a fair few Europeans gracing the Lakeside stage. So, let’s get onto the matches.

Martin Atkins versus Willy van de Wiel.

An interesting match here, with Martin Atkins, a surprise winner over John Walton, taking on Willy van de Wiel, who knocked out Dave Prins very comfortably in the first round.

Van de Wiel didn’t exactly put in a great performance, but he won 3-0, which is very flattering. Martin Atkins was far more impressive, putting in a average of 87.42, defeating an opponent that pushed him all the way.

I’ve never been impressed by Van de Wiel, while Atkins is always solid when I’ve watched him. I think Atkins is a solid proposition tonight, and I really like his price, as his first round performance was far more impressive than that of his opponent. Atkins’ experience should see him through and see him through with a bit of a cushion.

Martin Atkins -1.5 sets to beat Willy van de Wiel: 13/8 @ Paddy Power.

Recommend: 4 units.

Scott Waites versus Ted Hankey.

Two of the biggest names in the BDO square off with each other, both with decent displays in the first round. Waites averaged 89.52, while Hankey put in an 88.08. So, not much between them. However, the big difference has been the year both men have had. Waites has had a fantastic year, while Hankey hasn’t been performing anywhere near his best.

Waites looks a good thing here, but what looks good to me is the number of maximums in the match. Hankey managed 3 in the first round, while Waites only fired in 1. The line is 9.5, which looks high to me, especially with Waites playing, who loves hitting a 140, not so much the maximums.

Under 9.5 180s in the Scott Waites versus Ted Hankey match: 11/10 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 2.5 units.

Christian Kist versus Geert de Vos.

Two of the first round’s shock winner meet next, and the bookies really like Kist here. I can’t blame them, as he put in an average of 97.77 and knocked out the No.6 seed Jan Dekker in a fantastic match. De Vos did enough to knock out Tony West, but his average was aroudn 13 points short of Kist’s.

I like Kist here, as he looked unbelievably confident in the first round, while De Vos looked distinctly average. However, we might just get a few sets here, so the total number of sets is what we’re looking at here, as I think De Vos could sneak a couple of sets before Kist takes charge. The line is 5.5, I think we could get 6 without too much of a worry.

Total number of sets in Kist versus De Vos match over 5.5: 5/6 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 2 units.

Dean Winstanley versus Alan Norris.

A huge match to end the night, with last year’s runner-up, Dean Winstanley, taking on Alan “Chuck” Norris. Both men looked good in the first round, with Norris actually putting in the better average of 91.95. Winstanley’s average of 88.74 wan’t too bad either, to be fair.

I think Winstanley should come through, as he is a class act. But he’s no value, and I think the value lies in the 180s market. Both men fired in a fair amount in the first round, and if this goes 6 sets or more, as I think it should, we could see a lot of maximums. Norris his 8 maximums, while Winstanley hit 5. It looks good for a lot of 180s here.

Total 180s in Dean Winstanley versus Alan Norris match over 9.5: 10/11 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 2.5 units.

That’s the last of the second round matches of the BDO 2012 World Championship. Remember to return for more tips tomorrow.

A fun night of darts last night, with Dean Winstanley capping off the evening with a solid performance seeing of Joey ten Berg. Alan Norris scraped through against Benito van de Pas, and Geert de Vos did us a big favour with the upset of the night, taking out Tony West.

We’ve managed to get the upsets on our side, but we’re looking at a loss of -5.4 units at the end of the first round of the BDO 2012 World Championship. so, let’s get back on track and start the second round right now!

Paul Jennings versus Steve Douglas.

Both men had impressive wins in the first round, Douglas knocking out 5th seed Gary Robson 3-0 and Jennings dispatching Garry Thompson 3-1. Both men averaged roughly the same, at just under 84, so not exactly setting the world alight.

I really liked Douglas before his first round match, and I like him here again, as his form is extremely solid, and he did a real number on one of the biggest names in the BDO. He’s a nice price, so we’re going in.

Steve Douglas to beat Paul Jennings: 7/5 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 2 units.

Robbie Green versus Wesley Harms.

Wesley Harms pulled off another one of this year’s upsets, knocking out Martin Phillips in the first round, while Robbie Green easily took care of Darryl Fitton. Both men won their matches 3-1, but there’s a bit of a disparity in their averages. Green averaged just over 87, while Harms managed just over 82. There’s no denying Green is a heavy scorer, and he’s one of top players in the BDO. I don’t think Harms has enough of a game to trouble Kong, and I think the handicap is where we should look for a bit of value. In a race to 4, I can’t see Harms taking more than 2 sets, so Green look tremendous value.

Robbie Green -1.5 sets to beat Wesley Harms: 5/6 Paddy Power.

Recommend: 3 units.

Martin Adams versus Gary Stone.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere’s Wolfie. Again. Adams got the defence of his title off to a flyer with a 3-0 win over the dangerous Scott Mitchell, while Stone destryoed No.16 seed Ron Meulenkamp 3-0 with an average of 88.68. Adams averaged just over 90, so not much of a disparity in performances at all.

Adams is 1/5 to take this, and I can’t see any value in this. Stone looked decent enough in the first round to suggest he’ll put up a fight against England Captain Martin Adams. While he might not take the match, the +2.5 on the handicap is pretty tempting, as I can see him pushing England Captain Martin Adams all the way.

Tony O’Shea versus Ross Montgomery.

This should be the game of the night. Both men won their first round matches comfortably, with a score of 3-1. Both men averaged around the 88-89 mark and both men have a wealth of experience behind them. For me, it’s too close to call, but there’s one thing for certain, we’re going to have a close one. So, because of that, I think we’re going to see a couple of decent checkouts. With the line at 126.5, I think we have to have a go at it, because both men love a high checkout, and O’Shea hit a 140 and a 142 finish in the first round, while Montgomery wasn’t far off with a 116. So, we should hopefully get a lot of legs and a lot of big finishes.

Highest checkout in Tony O’Shea versus Ross Montgomery match over 126.5: 5/6 @ Paddy Power.

Day Three of the BDO 2012 World Championship starts without the presence of John Walton and Martin Phillips. Both men suffered shock defeats, while Scott Waites and Ted Hankey progressed through to the second round. Tonight sees the last of the first round action, and we still have one or two big names left to play.

Tony West versus Geert De Vos.

Not a bad year for Tony West, and he’s sitting at No.11 in the BDO rankings. He’s taking on Geert de Vos, the Belgian ranked 24th in the BDO. West didn’t impress in Zuideruin, while De Vos didn’t look too bad, beating Gary Robson.

The bookies really like west here, but I’m going to suggest a little dabble on the outsider here, as both men have comparable form of late.

Geert de Vos to beat Tony West: 8/5 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 1 unit.

Alan Norris versus Benito van de Pas.

The bookies have this as a close match, but I really like Norris here. He won their last meeting in the Czech Open 4-2, losing 6-5 to Dean Winstanley in the final of that tournament. Norris is in decent form coming into this tournament, beating Tony O’Shea in Zuideruin, too. Van de Pas has climbed up through the rankings in double quick time and he’s the seeded player here, but that’s a misnomer, I believe. He hasn’t been ing reat form for the best part of 8 months, and I can’t see Norris being troubled by him.

Alan Norris -1.5 sets to beat Benito van de Pas: 13/8 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 2 units.

Dean Winstanley versus Joey ten Berge.

A great year for Dean Winstnaley. He’s making finals all over the BDO circuit and has cemented his place in the upper echelons of darts. Joey ten Berge has just been unlucky with the draw here, as against other players I’d fancy his chances, as he’s come into decent form at the end of last year. But I can’t see anything other than a Winstanley win. Winstnaley’s scoring is just phenomenal and as long as he doubles reasonably well, the Dutchman will have no chance.

The line for 180s is 5.5 and I can see Winstanley getting close to that himself. If Ten Berge can weigh in with a couple, the line should be beaten easily.

Over 5.5 180s in Dean Winstanley versus Joey ten Berge: Evens @ Paddy Power.

Recommend: 2.5 units.

And that’s it for the first round of the 2012 BDO World Championship. I’ll be back tomorrow with more tips for the second round.

Until then, remember our good friends that are offering £50 of free bets to their new customers. Don’t forget to head over to 888.com.

Six matches last night, five of them finish with a 3-0 scoreline. A very one-sided day of darts yesterday, with England Captain Martin Adams starting the defence of his title with a 3-0 win over Scott Mitchell. The shock of the round coming when Gary Robson lost to Steve Douglas, which was tipped here at 7/4.

More big names take to the stage today, with Ted “The Count” Hankey, Scott Waites and Martin Phillips all in action, as well as John Walton and Jan Dekker. So, without further ado, let’s get onto the tips.

John Walton versus Martin Atkins.

The 2001 World Champion, John Walton, takes to the stage first against the experienced Martin Atkins. Both men have had distinctly average years, with Walton getting some good runs behind him, but taking down only one significant title. The bookies have Walton in at 8/13, which looks a little short, but there’s no doubt his experience should carry him through. I think Walton at -1.5 on the handicap looks a good bet here, as although Atkins should be good enough to get on the board, I can’t see him taking more than one set.

John Walton -1.5 sets to beat Mark Atkins: 11/8 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 2 units.

Willy van de Wiel versus Dave Prins.

Dave Prins came through the qualifiers here and is taking on BDO No.10 Willy van de Wiel. There’s no denying Prins’ experience, and Van de Wiel looks a bit short given that he’s only had one great result this year, reaching the final of the British Open, where he lost to Scott Waites 3-1. Prins might just be worth a small wager here at the prices, as his experience will stand him in good stead.

Dave Prins to beat Willy van de Wiel: 2/1 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 0.5 unit.

Scott Waites versus Andy Boulton.

The man with the form, Scott Waites, has a tricky first round match against Andy “X-Factor” Boulton, who is known to BDO and PDC fans alike, with his karaoke walk-ons. Waites should have no trouble here, but he’s no price at 2/11. Boulton had a good run at the PDC UK Open, getting to the last 16, before losing to Mark Webster 9-4. Taking vincent van der Voort’s scalp along the way showed Boulton is a player to be reckoned with.

But I can’t see past Waites, who is coming into this tournament in excellent form, winning in Zuideruin, winning the World Cup and the World Masters in the space of a few months. 3-0 looks good here.

Scott Waites to beat Andy Boulton 3-0: 11/8 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 1.5 units.

Paul Jennings versus Garry Thompson.

A big match here, with Paul Jennings having had a good year, picking up some lower tier tournaments throughout Europe, earning a nice wedge of money and propelling him through the rankings at a rate of knots. Garry Thompson hasn’t been playing badly, either, with Alan Norris seeming to be his nemesis when it comes to finals. Jennings has been playing some good darts, but I can see Thompson’s experience being key here, as he’s done it before on this stage, while Jennings is making his Lakeside debut. The bookies favour Jennings, but I think Thompson should be favourite here.

Garry Thompson to beat Paul Jennings: Evens @ Betfair.

Recommend: 1.5 units.

Trina Gulliver versus Lisa Ashton.

As I mentioned yesterday, I won’t be tipping the women’s matches. But you all probably know what Trina Gulliver is capable of, and why she’s 4/11 to win this match.

Recommend: No bet.

Jan Dekker versus Christian Kist.

An all-Dutch battle in the first round, with last year’s semi-finalist Jan Dekker hoping to get antoher big run going. Not a bad year for Jan Dekker, but he didn’t capitalise on his run here last year as much as he would have hoped. Still, he wasn’t bad at the grand Slam of Darts, beating Arron Monk, losing to Mark Webster and John Part, but not disgracing himself. He should have too much for his opponent here. What I like the look of is the highest checkout market. Dekker has never impressed me with his finishing, and Kist is a bit of an unknown to me, so I think the under 119.5 line is a bit of value.

Highest checkout in Jan Dekker versus Christian Kist match under 119.5: 5/6 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 1.5 units.

Ted Hankey versus Clive Barden.

I’l say it now that I was disappointed Ted Hankey wasn’t invited to the PDC Premier League. His performance at the GSOD, getting the crowd behind him like that, showed he’s great for the game. Barden is a qualifier for the World Championship, and since a run to the final of the Scottish Open in February, he hasn’t been up to much. I think The Count will have far too much for him here, even though 2011 wasn’t a spectacular year for him. I just think Hankey’s experience will be too much, and he’ll be looking to impress on the back of a brilliant GSOD run. He’s 1/5, which is no price. However, he should be able to keep the 3-0 trend going, so a little dabble is worthwhile.

Ted Hankey to beat Clive Barden 3-0: 6/4 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 1 unit.

Martin Phillips versus Wesley Harms.

Wales versus Holland here, and the Dutchman is actually the seeded player here. It’s been a quiet year for Phillips, while Harms has picked up a big win at the BDO International Open. Phillips loves the Lakeside, but maybe he’s starting to feel his age. He didn’t look bad at the GSOD, but Harms is a bit of a prospect, and might just be worth a dabble at a very tasty price.

Wesley Harms to bear Martin Phillips: 2/1 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 0.5 unit.

And that’s all for the second day of the BDO 2012 World Championship. We’re back tomorrow for Day Three. See you tomorrow!

Until then, remember our good friends that are offering £50 of free bets to their new customers. Don’t forget to head over to 888.com.

A short break between World Championships and we’re back with the original darts World Championship, the BDO 2012 World Championship, live from the Lakeside with the likes of Martin Adams, Tony O’Shea, Dean Winstanley and Ted Hankey. For the first time ever the broadcast will be split between the BBC and ESPN. For BBC darts diehards, it’s a bit unfortunate, but hopefully ESPN do it the justice it deserves.

A packed first day of action with the defending champion, Martin Adams, in action, along with Robbie “Kong” Green, Darryl “The Dazzler” Fitton, Tony “The Silverback” O’Shea. Let’s get right onto the tips.

Ron Meulenkamp vs Gary Stone.

The young Dutchman, Ron Meulenkamp, ranked 16 in the BDO rankings takes on qualifier Gary Stone. Meulenkamp hasn’t had a bad year on the circuit, picking up some nice wins, as well as some good runs. He’s a youngster with a bright future, like a lot of his countrymen. Stone is an unknown factor, but I think the bookies might have overpriced Meulenkamp here.

Ron Meulenkamp to beat Gary Stone: 4/6 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 3 units.

Martin Adams versus Scott Mitchell.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere’s Wolfie! England Captain Martin Adams (to give him his full title) starts his defence here after a few great results – a semi-final in Zuideruin, a final in the World Cup (winning the Doubles title), and a semi-final in the World Masters. His opponent, Scott Mitchell, went to the quarter-finals in Zuideruin, so not a bad result for him either. Not a spectacular year, but solid enough to get him to No.19 in the BDO rankings. So a tricky enough task for England Captain Martin Adams, who is a very short price. I can see Mitchell getting at least a set here, if not more, so the total sets market is our play here.

Total sets in Martin Adams versus Scott Mitchell match over 3.5: 1/2 @ 888.com.

Recommend: 2 units.

Tony O’Shea versus Steve West.

An up and down year for the Silverback, who comes in to this tournament in inconsistent form. Steve West hasn’t had too bad a year considering, and he’ll be fancying his chances here against O’Shea. I can’t split the two, really, after O’Shea’s average showing at the Grand Slam of Darts, followed up by a poor showing in Zuideruin. So, this might just be a little closer than the bookies reckon. West has never made it past the first round here, but you just never know with the first round.

Steve West to beat Tony O’Shea: 2/1 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 0.5 unit.

Ross Montgomery versus Fabian Roosenbrand.

Ross Montgomery looks to get in good form coming into this tournament, after a semi-final in Zuideruin, as well as a fair few wins on the BDO circuit. Fabian Roosenbrand shouldn’t hold any problems for the Scotsman, as the young Dutchman has had quite a poor year, sturggling in the WDF Majors. Montgomery should win this and win comfortably, but 4/9 is no price for us. However, -1.5 on the handicap is appealing given his form.

Ross Montgomery -1.5 sets to beat Fabian Roosenbrand: Evens @ 888.com.

Recommend: 1.5 units.

Lorrain Farlam versus Karen Lawman.

As much as I would love to, I really don’t know enough about women’s darts to even consider tipping something here. Plus, a best of 3 format is a tricky one to bet on.

Recommend: No bet.

Deta Hedman versus Rhian Edwards.

I do know all about Deta Hedman, but see above for my answer about tips on women’s darts.

Recommend: No bet.

Darryl Fitton versus Robbie Kong.

Two of the BDO’s biggest names take to the stage and the bookies can’t split them. Fitton’s year hadn’t been great up until December, and his run to the final in Zuideruin. Green has just been consistent, doing nothing spectacular, but 4th in the BDO rankings and 5th in the WDF rankings speaks volumes as to his ability. This is going to be a classic. Howevever, I had a sneaking feeling that Green will Fitton will take this. His run in Zuideruin speaks volumes and coming in with confidence is a huge thing at the Lakeside.

Darrly Fitton to beat Robbie Green: 10/11 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 1 unit.

Gary Robson versus Steve Douglas.

A good, solid year from Gary Robson, who will be looking for a big run at the Lakeside this year, after his quarter-final appearance last year. Not a terrible year for Steve Douglas either, who’s rapidly rising up the rankings and taking some notable wins in the smaller events on the tour. Douglas actually qualified for the PDC’s UK Open, winning his first match, losing in the second round. Douglas’ nemesis lately has been Dean Winstanely, losing to him 5-4 in Zuideruin after losing to him 5-1 in the semi-finals in the Czech Open. But that’s nothing to be ashamed of!

Robson is the favourite to go through here, but Douglas is having a solid year and is worth a nibble at what I see to be a big price.

Steve Douglas to beat Gary Robson: 7/4 @ Betfair.

Recommend: 1 unit.

And that’s all for the first day of the BDO 2012 World Championship. We’re back tomorrow for Day Two, and we’ll be tipping for the entire tournament. Remember to get your ESPN subscription sorted for this year, as it won’t all be on the BBC! See you tomorrow!

We started 2012 with a bang last night, thanks to a miracle or two. Thanks to Adian Lewis’ last leg heroics, we went 4-0 last night, taking us to 30-32 for the tournament, and taking us back into a profit of +2.26 units.

We’re down to the final two of the PDC 2012 World Championship, and it’s an all-Stoke affair, with Adrian Lewis taking on the biggest surpise of the tournament, Andy Hamilton. Both men battled hard in their semi-finals and both men deserve their places here thanks to amazing wins against James Wade and Simon Whitlock respectively.

So, I’m sure you’re as excited as I am to finish off the PDC 2012 World Championship in style, so without further ado, let’s get our last set of free darts betting tips out of the way so we can sit back and enjoy the action.

Adrian Lewis has defied the odds throughout this tournament from the get-go and did it again last night/this morning, so it’s good to see him in the final for his fighting spirit alone. While he’s not played the same level of darts that won him the World Championship last year, he’s done more than enough to deserve his place here. His victory last night with a breathtaking performance ranks as one of the greatest comebacks in darts history. Lewis stepped up his scoring at the right time, after a farcical air con problem earlier in the match threatened to ruin his night. But he overcame that and also the crowd to win with an amazing 161 finish. It’s proof that his combination finishing is an unbelievably strong part of his game. Couple that with his scoring (when he’s in the zone) and he really is a hard man to beat.

Andy Hamilton has defied the odds to get there. He was a 200/1 outsider at the start of the tournament, but high scoring paired with superb doubling has got him here. He’s taken out some of the top names in darts, and showed great determination to get over the line against Simon Whitlock, when at one point he couldn’t hit a treble for love nor money. The fighting spirit is something Hamilton has shown throughout the tournament, going to a final set in three of his five matches. He’ll be looking to continue his outstanding scoring in the final, and if the first 4 sets of his semi-final are anything to go by, he’ll be quick out of the blocks.

I think this match has classic written all over it. Lewis hasn’t been the same force as 2011, but he’s done what he’s needed to when it came down to it. However, Hamilton has outperformed Lewis in every stat apart from highest checkout, so I really think Hamilton is a bit of value to claim the biggest win of his life. He hit 58% of his doubles in his semi-final, which is 16% highest than Lewis in his semi-final. Even with a terrible lull halfway through the match, 58% doubling is certainly impressive.

Throughout the tournament, Hamilton’s been averaging better than Adrian Lewis, so for Lewis to be favourite to score the highest average seems a bit of out of whack here. 6/4 for Hamilton is a fair price, and just the fact that Hamilton’s tournament average is great than that of Lewis goes some way to proving there’s value there.

Finally, I think we’re going to get a close match with a fair few sets, so the line at 10.5 appeals to me. I think both men, in the form they showed last night, are capable of 4 sets each, which would guarantee us a win.
